RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton was the loving husband of Patty and the late Susan; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton served for thirty-four years as a Congressman representing western and central Missouri; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton was the influential Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and an expert on military history; and
WHEREAS, A distant relative of Daniel Boone, the Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton was born in Lexington, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton met Harry S. Truman through his father who was good friends with the future President; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton attended President Truman's inauguration and developed a passion for public service; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton served as Lafayette County prosecutor and in the state senate before being elected to Missouri's 4th Congressional District in 1977; and
WHEREAS, Following his tenure in elected office, the Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton joined the law firm of Husch Blackwell; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of November, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Isaac "Ike" Skelton for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
