TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF ADOLPH EUGENE GARY, JR.





WHEREAS, On February 15, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, Adolph Eugene Gary, Jr. was born from the union of Marie Billings Gary and Adolph Gary, Sr. Raised on the south side of Chicago, Adolph attended Wendell Phillips High School and Wilson Junior College; and


WHEREAS, Adolph married Dorothy Mae Horton. Three children: Charles (deceased), Patricia and Rochelle were the product of that union. He would later marry Brenda Ware Harbin, his wife of the last 30 years of his life; and

WHEREAS, After.serving in the Army for 2 years, Adolph worked in various professions. He was a bus driver for the CTA, and then joined the Chicago Police Department rising up the ranks to homicide detective. He retired from the force in 1974. Adolph then worked for the State for 5 years as a Liaison Officer. Later, he would return to the CTA for 6 years as Manager of Passenger Security Services and Criminal Investigations; and

WHEREAS, Adolph was quite the entrepreneur. He owned several successful businesses: 2 Norgetown Laundromats, the Park Manor Bowling Alley and Bren Products Company; and

WHEREAS, Adolph was an avid sports enthusiast. Bowling and golf were his favorite pastime. He didn't hesitate to travel the country to play golf and was so proficient in bowling that he is listed at the Black Bowlers Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Above all else Adolph was the quintessential family man. He doted on his children, grand and great-grandchildren. He was especially pleased when his great-granddaughter Kaia was born on his 83rd birthday; and

WHEREAS, On June 6, 20 L/ Adolph Eugene Gary, Jr. passed away leaving his wife Brenda; daughters Patricia Lynch (Donald) and Rochelle Gary; step son, Roger Ware; step daughter, Heather Ware and Tracie Burris (Glenn); 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous cousins and friends; and

WHEREAS, City Council has been informed of the passing of Adolph Eugene Gary, Jr. by the Honorable Leslie. A; ....
