Title: Tribute to late Betty Jean Hamilton

WHEREAS, On Monday, March 28, 2011, the Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom called to his eternal paradise, Betty Jean Hamilton; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Betty was born March 6, 1935 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the union of James and Hattie Mae Murchinson; and
WHEREAS, Betty was baptized and became a member of Saint Paul AME Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. She went to Barr Street High School. She attended South Carolina State College where she studied Elementary Education. She relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she attended Daley College and pursued a love ofthe art. She designed beautiful floral arrangements and ceramic pottery. Betty attended other colleges and universities for the purpose of education; and
WHEREAS, Betty was united in matrimony to Roosevelt Hamilton on December 15, 1962. This union was blessed with two beautiful children Reginald and Sandra; and
WHEREAS, She became a member of Timothy Lutheran Church where she was an active member and held several offices with the Ladies Aide Society. She was also active in her community where she was secretary of the 82nd and Paulina Street Block Club as well as an active member of CAPS. Betty assisted her husband with coaching the little league Braves with the Foster Park Community Baseball Association; and
WHEREAS, Her love for reading inspired her to initiate one of the first neighborhood summer reading programs for her children as well as the other children in the neighborhood. She believed reading was the key to knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joseph; she leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, a loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Roosevelt Hamilton; one son, Reginald (Cassandra); one daughter, Sandra; two sisters, Susie (Crawford) Brown, and Cleo (Arthur) Corpus; one brother, James Murchinson; two sister-in-laws, Barbara Murchinson, and Juanita Marsha...
