RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Strides for Peace is hosting their annual Race Against Gun Violence during the evening of June 4, 2020, from 6:00 PM until 9:30 PM at Soldier Field; and,
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed ofthis occasion by the Honorable Ariel Reboyras, Alderman ofthe 30th Ward; and,
WHEREAS, Strides for Peace was founded in response to the high incidence of gun violence that has been occurring in Chicago; and,
WHEREAS, The Race Against Gun Violence was launched by Strides for Peace in 2014 to bring communities together to show the world that Chicago can come together to solve the problem of gun violence and save lives; and,
WHEREAS, The race is a rallying point to raise funds for, and bring awareness about what is being done to end gun violence and build Chicago where all can thrive; and
WHEREAS, The date was chosen to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Month for the urgent need to prevent gun violence, especially during the summer months, and to provide a platform for members ofthe Chicagoland communities to come together and be part ofthe solution; and now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this nineteenth day of February, 2020, do hereby extend our recognition for the Race Against Gun Violence hosted by Strides for Peace; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Strides for Peace.
