RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the George Westinghouse College Prep (formerly known as Westinghouse Area Vocational High School) Class of 1978 will gather on October 12th through 13th to celebrate its 40-year class reunion; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been informed of this auspicious occasion by the Honorable Jason Ervin, Alderman of the 28th Ward; and
WHEREAS, the members of the class of 1978 will remember all the fun times they had, such as assembling on the ramp, school dances in the gymnasium, homecoming games, prom night and graduation at Medinah Temple; and
WHEREAS, the members of the class of 1978 can remember when a gallon of gas cost 63 cents, a dozen of eggs cost 48 cents, average monthly rent was $260 and the average income per year was $17,000; and
WHEREAS, the members of the class of 1978 will never forget what happened in 1978, Space Invaders launched a craze for video games, cellular mobile phones were introduced in Illinois, and Saturday Night Fever and Close Encounters of the Third Kind were showing in theatres around the world; and
WHEREAS, the class of 1978 had many notable graduates including; Mark Aguirre, the first player selected in the 1981 NBA Draft; Dr. Joseph Chambers, a Cardiologist; and U.S. Army Col. Reggie Austin, 633rd Air Base Wing Vice Commander; and
WHEREAS, the members of the class of 1978 valued their education and support by the teachers, coaches, school staff, community leaders and neighbors who helped shaped their lives so they could be outstanding examples as citizens and role models; and
WHEREAS, the City of Chicago is hopeful that this 40th reunion of the class of 1978 will be a memorable and enjoyable time for all who attend; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby extend our heartfelt congratulations to the 1978 class of George Westinghouse College Prep on their 40-year class reunion.
