July 15,2020
TO THE HONORABLE, THE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON LICENSE AND CONSUMER PROTECTION
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith an ordinance that allows night games to be played at Wrigley Field on Friday and Saturday nights during the 2020 baseball season.
Your favorable consideration ofthis ordinance will be appreciated.
Rosa Escareno. Commissioner, BACP
131 NORTH LASAUE STRICT, DOOM 800. CHICAGO. JUlNOIS
Very truly yours,
ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, The Municipal Code of Chicago and an associated contract with the Chicago Cubs set clear limits on when, and how many, night games may be played each season at Wrigley Field; and
WHEREAS, As a result ofthe COVID^I 9 pandemic, large gatherings of people are prohibited as it could lead to the spreading of the disease. This prohibition includes spectators in sports stadiums; and
WHEREAS, Also as a result of the pandemic, Major League Baseball is planning a shortened season of 60 total regular season games; and
WHEREAS, The reduced number of games and the current absence of spectators at games played at Wrigley Field reduces the noise, crowding, and traffic associated with customary night games in that stadium, and therefore justifies a temporary departure from the foregoing night game limitation for the 2020 baseball season; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. During the 2020 baseball season, the prohibition on night games on Friday and Saturday nights imposed by Section 4-156-430(C) shall not apply. Public attendance to any game shall only occur to the extent allowed under the limitations on gatherings ordered by the Commissioner of Public Health or the Governor of Illinois, whichever is more restrictive.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect following due passage and approval.
