RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, on November 28, 2014 Pablo Medina officially retired from the Chicago Commission on Human Relations after thirty years of dedicated service to the City of Chicago; and,

WHEREAS, Pablo Medina began his career with the City after being recruited by then Mayor Harold Washington in 1984 to help run the Mayor's Commission on Latino Affairs; and,

WHEREAS, in 1990 the Mayor's Commission on Latino Affairs was merged with the Commission on Human Relations, and Pablo Medina became the Coordinator of Community Services for the Commission's Inter-Group Relations Unit (IGR), and Director of IGR in 2003; and,

WHEREAS, in this capacity Pablo Medina assisted countless victims of hate crimes and helped to mediate tensions between different racial, ethnic, religious and other groups often putting himself in the middle of potentially explosive situations. Through his efforts, Pablo Medina helped to reduce volatile conflicts which without his intervention could have resulted in violence to citizens and damage to property; and,

WHEREAS, for thirty years, Pablo Medina brought passion, caring, and a strong sense of justice to his work which epitomizes the spirit ofthe Chicago Commission on Human Relations, pushing his staff, and colleagues at the Commission to always fight for what's right, and to always speak out against injustice; and,

WHEREAS, Pablo Medina's work extended beyond his official capacity with the City as a staunch advocate and leader in Chicago's Puerto Rican Community for many years helping to establish such important organizations as Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA), the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, and Latinos United (now Latino Policy Forum), among others; and,

WHEREAS, Pablo Medina cared about all people, and spent his entire career striving to make life better for people who have been victims of discrimination, hate, and violence; and now therefore,
