RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Brother Charles E. Joyce has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-six; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS Brother Charles E. Joyce was a widely admired member of the religious community and an integral part of Chicago's Brother Rice High School community for more than forty years; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, Brother Charles E. Joyce was the loving son of the late Edward and Bernadine and the brother of Kathy and Frances; and
WHEREAS, Brother Charles E. Joyce joined the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1953 following graduation from Leo High School and in 1961 made his final vows; and
WHEREAS, Brother Charles E. Joyce taught drafting, algebra and theology, and was moderator for the band and coach of the swimming and water polo teams; and
WHEREAS, Brother Charles E. Joyce left Brother Rice in 1976 to complete teaching assignments in New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Washington state and then returned in 1985 to serve as maintenance director and act as moderator for the Mothers Club; and
WHEREAS, In 1999 Brother Charles E. Rice was inducted into the Brother Rice High School Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Brother Charles E. Joyce helped construct many of the stained glass windows seen throughout Brother Rice High School, particularly those which currently adorn the school's chapel; and
WHEREAS, Brother Charles E. Joyce will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Brother Charles E. Joyce imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of July, 2011, do hereby commemorate Brother Charles E. Joyce for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
