RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On November 18, 2018 we celebrated the Centenary of Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia; and

WHEREAS, One hundred years ago, in the aftermath of World War I, the Independence of the Republic of Latvia was proclaimed by the Latvian National Council; and

WHEREAS, On November 18,1918, at the Second National Theatre in Riga, the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia was created, and Latvia as an independent and democratic nation was born; and

WHEREAS, Chicago is proud to share a friendship and partnership with the Republic of Latvia based on a shared embrace of democratic values; and now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of January, 2019, hereby officially commemorate the Republic of Latvia's 100^th Anniversary of Independence; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorary Consulate General of Latvia in Chicago.
