RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On Saturday, September 7, 2013, the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago will present the "Von Steuben German Day Parade"; and

WHEREAS, We celebrate this event for Baron Friedrich Von Steuben, who came to this country as a volunteer, offering his services to General George Washington during the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, This event has hundreds of participants who march, dance, play music or ride several beautiful floats on Lincoln Avenue and Western Avenue in Chicago's 47^th Ward; and

WHEREAS, This is a chance for the city's German-American community to celebrate its heritage and for the city to come together to share our common bonds; and

WHEREAS, the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago will hold a Commemoration Ceremony at St. Benedict Church on October 5, 2013; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 24^lh Day of July, 2013 AD, do hereby thank the United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago for its community service and for holding the "Von Steuben German Day Parade," in honor of General Von Steuben's inspiration, confidence and competence; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That suitable copies of the resolution be prepared and presented to United German-American Societies of Greater Chicago.
