WHEREAS, On Thursday, April 14, 2011, the Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom called to his eternal journey Jamar Lavell "Shorty" Conner; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Jamar was born September 2, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois; he was the second of three children born to Jeannie and Melvin Conner; and
WHEREAS, "Shorty" never came short of the love he needed from his parents or his siblings Jameil and Jaleesha. They were bonded together through many family functions. They engaged in what would become a video library featuring a life of indoor and outdoor activities; and
WHEREAS, Through the foundational structure "Shorty" received from his parents, combined with a mindset of self sufficiency and spirit of entrepreneurship, "Shorty" excelled in other aspects of his life. He began his own lawn mowing business at the tender age of eight; and
WHEREAS, Shorty's athleticism showed at a young age. He began playing Little League baseball, before joining the Merrionette Parks Traveling Team with a batting average of 600. Positioned at centerfield, he went on to play for Simeon High School which opened the door for a scholarship to Maplewood College in Kansas City, Missouri;
WHEREAS, He serviced the senior and disabled population working with companies such as SCR and Pace, building a reputation as a courteous, trustworthy, and patient driver. His commitment to family, loyalty to friends, and generosity to others was long term. Even though he is no longer physically with us, his "gift of life" will continue to live on in the lives of others who will share his donated organs. God has used Jamar as a letter to those of us who yet remain; it reads - BE READY; and
