WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago is a two-day, 200 plus mile bicycle ride from the campus of Northwestern University to south-central Wisconsin, and is produced by Test Positive Aware Network (TPAN) to raise funds for HIV/AIDS services in the Chicagolarid area; and,
WHEREAS, Ride forAIDS Chicago was first conceived in 2002 when a group of committed volunteers wanted to create a challenging cycling event that promised lo return 100% of pledged dollars to charity; and.
WHEREAS, Over the past several years, the size of the ride has grown steadily in both participation and fundraising; and,
WHEREAS, Ride for AIDS Chicago supports organizations and programs that serve all people in the Chicagoland area who are impacted by HIV, regardless of age, gender, race, or neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Community partners for this year's event include: About Face Theatre; AIDS Foundation of Chicago; Alexian Brothers Bonaventure House; Children of Uganda; Amani Kids; Chicago House; Howard Brown Health Center; South Side Help Center; Test Positive Aware Network and Youth Outlook; and now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this sixth day of July, 2011 A.D., salute the Ride for AIDS Chicago riders and volunteers on their commitment in the fight against AIDS; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Ride for AIDS Chicago, TPAN, and their community partners.
