WHEREAS, David Zavattero announced his retirement from The Chicago Department of Transportation as the Deputy Commissioner for Traffic Safety effective January 30th, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The City of Chicago has been informed of this occasion by Alderman Matthew J. O'Shea; and
WHEREAS, David Zavattero joined the Office of Emergency Management and Communications in 2006; and
WHEREAS, David Zavattero moved to the Chicago Department of Transportation in 2010; and
WHEREAS, David has been a champion for Intelligent Transportation Systems and responsible for traffic engineering, safety engineering and safety planning projects; and
WHEREAS, David has been a force in making Chicago technologically savvy; and
WHEREAS, upon joining OEMC David managed many innovative projects such as the Chicago traffic tracker system and website to provide travelers with real-time traffic information; and
WHEREAS, After moving to CDOT David led many technology projects such as transit signal priority for the CTA Jeffery Bus Rapid Transit service as a prototype for other routes, the e-Crash electronic crash reporting system to provide more timely and quality data for engineering and planning decisions and the advanced traffic management system for the Chicago Transportation Management Center to proactively manage and operate our transportation system; and
WHEREAS David has had a remarkable career as a national and international leader in transportation technology; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council assembled this 18th day of March 2015 do hereby congratulate and pay tribute to David Zavattero on the occasion of his retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to David Zavattero
