City Council Meeting January 15, 2014
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, After 30 years of public service in local and state government, Neomi Hernandez is retiring on January 31, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Neomi was born in Chicago, Illinois, and is an alumna of DePaul University with a Bachelor's of Science in Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Neomi began her service in City government when she interned in the City of Chicago's Department of Personnel from 1984 to 1986 where she administered the written exam for Chicago Police Officers and Sergeants and administered physical testing for potential fire fighter candidates for the Fire Department's Training Academy; and
WHEREAS, From 1986 to 1993, Neomi worked in the Cook County State's Attorney's Office; and
WHEREAS, From 1993 to 1994, Neomi worked in the Crime Victim's Division of the Illinois Attorney General's Office; and
WHEREAS, Neomi worked with the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1994 to 1997;
and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Neomi worked as in Investigator with the Chicago Police Department's Office of Professional Standards and then went on to her current position as Investigator with the City's Independent Police Review Authority; and
WHEREAS, In addition to Neomi's demanding career, she still found time to volunteer as a Judge of Election for the City of Chicago, voter registrar in the Puerto Rican Community through the Program ATREVETE, a deputy registrar and election day investigator with the City of Chicago's Board of Elections, and deputy registrar with the Cook County Board of Elections; and
WHEREAS, Neomi also devoted her time to lobbying with MALDEF for redistricting at Congressional, County and Judicial levels; and
WHEREAS, Neomi served as a Democratic electoral delegate representing the Puerto Rican Community for the City of Chicago and State of Illinois during the convention that nominated Clinton/Gore in 1996; and
