RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis, a widely admired member of the judiciary, has announced his retirement from the bench, effective on July 31, 2015; and

>

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis graduated from the University of Detroit and the John Marshall law School; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis began his legal career in 1970 as an Assistant Cook County State's Attorney; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis entered private practice in 1974 and was appointed to serve as an Associate Judge of Cook County in 1982; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis became a Circuit Court judge in 1989 and was retained in 1990; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis served in the Criminal Division, Law Jury Division and as the Presiding Judge of the Fourth Municipal District; and

 

WHEREAS, From 2002 to 2012, the Honorable Themis N. Karnezis was assigned to the Illinois Appellate Court; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Themis N. Karnezis will retire as a Circuit Court Judge At Large; and

 

WHEREAS, A retirement party honoring the career of the Honorable Themis N. Karnezis will be held Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Union League Club in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Themis N. Karnezis serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby congratulate the Honorable Themis N. Karnezis on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby recognize his many important contributions to the judiciary over his long and illustrious tenure; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Themis N. Karnezis.
