RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-four; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite was a widely admired member of the religious community who ministered to Chicago's poor and homeless for more than five decades; and

WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, the Reverend Howard A. Tuite was raised in St. Basil Parish and attended Mundelein Seminary at the University of St. Mary of the Lake; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite was ordained to the priesthood in 1954 and throughout his religious life imparted a message of hope to the faithful; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite served at St. Martin de Porres, Holy Angels and St. Carthage parishes before being named Pastor of St. Leo the Great and later St. Felicitas churches; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite was appointed Vicar of Vicariate V where he oversaw the development and lent assistance to ministries at a number of archdiocesan parishes; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite became a resident at Corpus Christi Church before retiring in 1999; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite most recently was a Chaplain at Provident Hospital of Cook County; and

WHEREAS, The dedication, sacrifice and holiness of the Reverend Howard A. Tuite serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Howard A. Tuite will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends'and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend Howard A. Tuite imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of March, 2014, do hereby commemorate the Reverend Howard A. Tuite for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
