RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 65; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci was the loving and devoted husband of Jan; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci was the beloved father of Kate and Anne and the doting grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A Republican in overwhelmingly Democratic Massachusetts, the Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci never lost an election during his more than three decades in public office; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci had a long and distinguished career in politics, winning elections to the Hudson Board of Selectmen, the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Massachusetts State Senate; and
WHEREAS, Having served as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts from 1991 to 1999, and then Acting Governor of Massachusetts, the Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci became the Governor of that state in 1999; and
WHEREAS, As Governor of Massachusetts, the Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci worked to strengthen educational standards and ensure the continued fiscal health of the commonwealth by reducing taxes and cutting spending; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci made history by appointing Margaret H. Marshall as Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, the first woman to head that branch of Massachusetts government; and
WHEREAS, Stepping down as Governor in 2001, the Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci spent four years as the United States Ambassador to Canada; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Argeo Paul Cellucci touched the lives of many with his integrity, wisdom and devotion to excellence in public service; and
