RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gyula Horn has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gyula Horn was the loving and devoted husband of Anna Kiraly; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Gyula Horn was the much-adored father of Anna and Gyula, Jr., to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, As Foreign Minister of Hungary, the Honorable Gyula Horn played a key role in the downfall of the Iron Curtain with his courageous 1989 decision to allow East German refugees to enter West Germany from his country; and
WHEREAS, The third Prime Minister of the Third Republic of Hungary, the Honorable Gyula Horn served under President Arpad Goncz from 1994 to 1998; and
WHEREAS, An influential voice in his county's public life, the Honorable Gyula Horn retained a seat in Parliament until 2010; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Gyula Horn serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Gyula Horn to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Gyula Horn imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of July 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Gyula Horn for his public service and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Gyula Horn.
