RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Willie Lee Hunter, 31, and his brother, John Lee Hunter, 25, have gone to their eternal reward; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of their passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Willie Lee Hunter and his brother, John Lee Hunter, were the nephews of State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-3rd) tragically lost their lives in a fatal shooting and car accident on the South Side; and
WHEREAS, Willie Lee Hunter and his brother, John Lee Hunter, were in Chicago visiting from Jefferson City, Missouri where they both worked at Scholastic, the children's publishing company; and
WHEREAS, Willie Lee Hunter and John Lee Hunter were victims of gun violence over the 4th of July weekend in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The brothers were shot while sitting in a car parked at 89th Street and Paulina Avenue when an unknown gunman walked up to their vehicle and shot them; and
WHEREAS, As John Lee Hunter drove away in an attempt to escape the gunfire, the vehicle crashed into a building housing a veteran's organization; and
WHEREAS, State Senator Mattie Hunter, in memorializing her nephews, said that no family is immune to gun violence and urged mourners to "consciously commit" to changing their community by seeking to end the cycle of violence and despair; and
WHEREAS, The brothers were considered hard workers by their co-workers in Missouri who they always treated well with their kindness and concern; and
WHEREAS, The hard work and enthusiasm of Willie Lee Hunter and John Lee Hunter serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To their mother, Angela, Willie Lee Hunter and his brother, John Lee Hunter, impart a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commemorate Willie Lee Hunter and his brother, John Lee Hunter for their grace-filled lives and do hereby express our condolences to thei...
