WHEREAS, Glen Campbell has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Glen Campbell was an iconic singer, songwriter and guitarist whose popular music fluidly crossed genres, from country to pop, making him a true American superstar; and
WHEREAS, Glen Campbell had 12 gold albums and a remarkable collection of hit songs including "Rhinestone Cowboy," "Wichita Lineman," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Galveston," "Gentle on My Mind" and "Southern Nights;" and
WHEREAS, Born in the tiny community of Billstown, Arkansas, Glen Campbell was one of 12 children of a rural Southern sharecropper; and
WHEREAS, As a teenager Glen Campbell moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to join his uncle's band and later moved to Los Angeles where he formed his own group and opened for The Doors; and
WHEREAS, During the 1960s, Glen Campbell was member of a group of studio musicians called "The Wrecking Crew," who anonymously backed up hit-makers during production; and
WHEREAS, A country crossover star, along with other renowned musicians such as Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Roy Clark, Glen Campbell's widespread appeal made him a household name; and
WHEREAS, Venturing onto the big screen, Glen Campbell played opposite Oscar winner John Wayne in the 1969 film True Grit and was nominated for an Oscar for the title song; and
WWHEREAS, Glen Campbell also found success in television as the host of the popular "Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour" on CBS from 1969 to 1972; and

HERE AS, Throughout his highly successful and colorful life, Glen Campbell enjoyed a jocular sense of wit which entertained audiences; and
WHEREAS, The 2014 documentary "Glen Campbell I'll Be Me" chronicled his farewell tour and his battle with Alzheimer's; and
WHEREAS, The talent, hard work and dedication of Glen Campbell serve as an example to all; and
