RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 11, 2013, Chicago's 5-11 Club celebrated its 60th Anniversary with a gala affair at the Hyatt Regency-O'Hare; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this anniversary by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The 5-11 Club currently operates two canteen trucks, one stationed on the northwest side of Chicago and another on the south side; and
WHEREAS, The primary purpose of the 5-11 Club canteen trucks is to provide food and beverages for emergency responders and displaced civilians at the scene of extra-alarm fires and other disaster events; and
WHEREAS, The canteen trucks also serve food and refreshments at special events sponsored by the Chicago Police and Chicago Fire departments; and
WHEREAS, From the beginning of 2000 to July of 2013, the 5-11 Club's canteen trucks have made more than than 767 runs; and
WHEREAS, The 5-11 Club recently purchased three deck carts for each of the Chicago Fire Department's rehab rigs which will greatly facilitate the delivery of supplies; and
WHEREAS, The friendly volunteers manning the trucks create a welcome oasis of calm and warm hospitality that restore both the spirit and the body; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of six decades the 5-11 club has provided vital assistance to Chicago's emergency responders and helped many cope with tragedy and loss; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of July 2013, do hereby thank the 5-11 Club for tireless support of our police and fire personnel; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the 5-11 Club in recognition of 60 years of loyal and generous service to Chicago.
