RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Bonnie Batchelor has been recognized by the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana Council for her 50 years of service to the Girl Scouts of America.; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this recognition by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Girl Scout Leaders are trained to prepare girls to empower themselves and promotes compassion, courage, confidence, character, leadership, entrepreneurship, and active citizenship through activities involving camping, community service, learning first aid, and earning badges by acquiring practical skills; and

WHEREAS, Bonnie began her Girl Scout career as a Brownie at Brentano Elementary Math and Science Academy in Chicago, where her mother was the Troop Leader. Bonnie continued on as a member of the Planning Board for the Girl Scouts of Chicago Council while attending Carl Schurz High School. She remained an active Campus Girl Scout into college; and

WHEREAS, In the 1970's Bonnie, along with her husband and two sons, settled in the Sauganash neighborhood on the City's great northwest side. It was here that Bonnie became involved in a church group and encountered the Nokomis Neighborhood Girl Scouts which encompassed Edgebrook and Sauganash Communities; and

WHEREAS, Bonnie became a Service Unit Manager and Certified Instructor of Trainers. She regularly attended the Service Unit Leader Meetings and was vigorous in taking responsibility of Service Unit events such as raising funds to sponsor a Service Unit Float for the 75th Anniversary of Girls Scouts Parade held in Chicago in 1987; and

WHEREAS, Bonnie became a professional Girl Scout, working with Sybaquay Council in Elgin, Illinois, Girl Scouts of Spar and Spindle Council in Massachusetts, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Girl Scouts of Central Texas Council, and the Girl Scouts of Green and White Mountains Council in New Hampshire until her retirement in 2...
