Resolution for Mrs. Gladys J. McKinney

 

 

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago are hereby informed of the passing of Mrs. Gladys J. McKinney on Saturday, June 18, 2016, by Alderman Sophia King; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Gladys J. McKinney was born to Elijah Pollard and Mary Smith on December 24, 1930 in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was one of eight born to this union; and

 

WHEREAS, She attended Forestville Elementary School and DuSable High School and received her degree in elementary education at Northwestern Inner City Studies and retired from Chicago Public Schools on June 25, 1993; and

 

WHEREAS, She accepted Christ at an early age and demonstrated throughout her life a sincere obedience to God. She attended Blackwell Israel Samuel A.M.E. Zion Church and was a faithful member. She was a faithful woman of prayer who served the Lord; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. McKinney was highly respected and well known in the North Kenwood - Oakland Community, where she had fought tirelessly as a Building President at Lake Park Place for the residents. She worked with diligence and vigor to achieve the goals of the community; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. McKinney over the years resided on many boards and received many outstanding awards for her recognition as a community activist; and

 

WHEREAS, The passing of the deceased has left us deeply sadden, she will be missed and not forgotten; now therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council assemble this Fifth day of October, do hereby pay tribute to Mrs. Gladys J. McKinney; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Mrs. Gladys J. McKinney.
