MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Maria Mondero, nee Mercado, on February 15, 2015 at the age of one-hundred-one; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, born in the Philippines on October 21, 1913, Maria was the beloved wife of Vicente; loving mother of Romeo (Mary), Virgilio (the late Amandalisa), Orlando (Revelina), Lito (Ella), Virginia (Michael) Torres and Mila (Gil) Maningding; cherished grandmother of sixteen and great-grandmother of twenty-four and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
WHEREAS, in her youth and living in the Philippines, Maria was acknowledged as a beauty queen and maintained her beauty throughout her older years. She leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, An active and vital member of her community, Maria touched the lives of all who knew her through her kindness, her generosity, her smile, her positive attitude, her heart and her spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her, now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this fifteenth day of April 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Maria Mondero and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maria Mondero as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
