RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Lyon has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Lyon was the loving and devoted husband for 41 years of Cynthia; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Lyon was the much-adored father of nine children, the grandfather of fourteen and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Lyon enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served his country during World War II and the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, Richard "Dick" Lyon was a valued member of the Navy for four decades and was the first Navy SEAL to rise to the rank of Admiral; and
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, Richard "Dick" Lyon retired from the Navy in 1983 and worked as a retail marketing and financial executive; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Richard "Dick" Lyon serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Richard "Dick" Lyon to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Richard "Dick" Lyon imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of February, 2017, do hereby commemorate Richard "Dick" Lyon for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard "Dick" Lyon.
