MEMORIAL RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of John B. Joyce on April 1, 2016 at the age of eighty-six; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born in Chicago on July 11, 1929, John was the beloved husband of Helen for sixty years; loving father of Kathleen (Chuck) Pocius, Karen (Kenneth) Geller, John (Kim) and James; devoted grandpa of Daniel, Charlie, Ryan and Kailyn; dear brother of the late Rita, the late James, the late Betty Ann and Patricia; and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love;
and

WHEREAS, Shortly after graduating from Senn High School, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, 1st Division in January 1948. This proud Veteran served in the Korean War, but was wounded in combat in 1950. He received the Purple Heart upon an honorable discharge in January of 1952 and also the recipient of the Korean Services Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Service Medal, Marksmanship Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation. John was also honored for his service at the 39th Ward's 2010 Mayfair Remembrance Day, Salute to American Heroes; and

WHEREAS, John was active and vital member of his community, always having a funny story to share or making others laugh. John was modest about his own accomplishments, always generous to others, and could light up any room with his friendly smile. He touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity and spirit, making him a truly unforgettable person. He will be deeply missed, but the memory of his smile, caring spirit, enduring patience, thoughtfulness, character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him, now, therefore,
