WHEREAS, It is with great pride and excitement that the members of this Chamber learn of the accomplishments of Illinois' very own Sydney Leidig; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of her achievements by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Sydney Leidig, a senior at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, Illinois, has been chosen to represent Illinois at the annual United States Senate Youth Program, joining Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, She will be joined by 103 other students who represent all states. The conference includes meeting with members of Congress, President Donald Trump, a justice of the Supreme Court, Cabinet members and ambassadors; and
WHEREAS, Sydney will receive a $10,000 scholarship to go towards her future education in Political Science and Women's Studies at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, Her acceptance into the program is much deserved, as she is Marian Central Catholic High School's senior class president, a deputy ambassador for Model United Nations and service project coordinator for the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, She always has shown a unique and passionate interest in politics. As a young high school student, she has managed local campaigns for McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks and J.B. Pritzker, an Illinois gubernatorial candidate; and
WHEREAS, Sydney's fervor for learning about government is an inspiration to all. In an interview with the Northwest Herald, Sydney pointed out that, "I just think not enough people know enough about their candidates. I didn't want to be one of those people;" and
WHEREAS, Sydney is proof that students are never too young to get involved in government and make a difference in their communities; now, therefore,
