RESOLUTION HONORING DR. DAVID SCHEINER'S DISTINGUISHED MEDICAL CAREER
 
 
 
WHEREAS, Dr. David Scheiner served the Hyde Park medical community for several decades; and
 
WHEREAS, his contributions were not limited to practicing medicine, but included considerable time devoted to educating enumerable students; and
 
WHEREAS, as a result of those teaching efforts he received several Excellence in Teaching awards from Rush Hospital, Advocate Christ and Michael Reese hospitals; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Scheiner served the medical needs of patients spanning the socioeconomic spectrum, including, in addition to merchant seaman, fisherman and inner-city children, distinguished individuals like Barack Obama, Carol Mosley Braun, Studs Terkel, Leon Despres and Nobel Prize winning physicist Yoichiro Nambu; and
 
WHEREAS, in recent years, Dr. Scheiner has been a champion for universal Medicare and has decried the injustices of the health care system in national media appearances; and
 
WHEREAS, even now, in his retirement from medical practice, Dr. Scheiner intends to resume teaching while pursuing resolution on the issue of medical fraud and while working to foster greater equality and justice in the medical system; and
 
WHEREAS, his retirement will afford him more time to spend with his wife, Margaret Creedon, and his two children and two step children, but his impact on the national medical community and its future evolution into a more sustainable, equitable system will carry on; THEREFORE
 
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council assemble this 10th day of September 2014, do hereby congratulate Dr. David Scheiner on a distinguished career and do wish him all the best as he continues his mission to advance a medical system that works on behalf of all citizens; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Dr. Scheiner.
