MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR JEWEL CALDWELL BARNES
WHEREAS, Jewel Caldwell Barnes wcnl to her eternal resting place on October 9, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Jewel Caldwell Barnes's passing by the Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9,n Ward; and
WHEREAS, Jewel Caldwell was born on June 7, 1932, in Tupelo, Mississippi. Jewel was the third of eight children born to the late Thomas and Beatrice Caldwell; and
WHEREAS, Jewel married her childhood sweetheart Willie B. Barnes in September 1947. They had four children: Geraldine, Willie, Barbara and Deborah; and
WHEREAS, Jewel was a loyal employee at Kuppenhcimer for more than eighteen years and worked for over twenty years at Automatic Electric. She also sold Avon and Watkins produce; and
WHEREAS, Jewel accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a dedicated member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Jewel was outstanding in the kitchen canning fruits and vegetables and baking for friends and family. Her caring nature will be missed by all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, Jewel leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Geraldine Maxwell (Rogers), Barbara Lusk (Casey) and Deborah Barnes; one granddaughter, Fatimah Lusk; two great grandchildren, James and Jasmine Lusk; two sisters, Roxanne Beene (Orville) and Louise Durham (Lee); one sister-in-law, Katie Smith (Freddie); and a host of relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS, Jewel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over fifty years, Willie B. Barnes; her son, Willie J. Barnes; and her siblings, James, Ethel, Lula Mae, Lilly and Joyce; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Jewel Caldwell Barnes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented tothe family of Jewel Caldwell Barnes as a sign of our deepes...
