RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-three; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, the Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams was the much-adored mother of Norman and the beloved aunt of twenty-three nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a Priest for St. Edmund's Episcopal Church, the Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams was the Chairman of the Board for Unity Funeral Parlors, Inc., and was President of Unity Limousine Service, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams earned her doctorate in Theology at the age of eighty; and
WHEREAS, Prior to ministering as a Priest and serving as a funeral director, the Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams was a medical social worker at Chicago's Cook County Hospital; and
WHEREAS, As a funeral director, the Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams formed a support group to help widows learn to manage life without their partners; and
WHEREAS, An active member of her community, the Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams sat on the boards of both the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry, and was involved with numerous charitable organizations, including the Child Welfare League of America and the United Negro College Fund; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams was the recipient of numerous awards, including honors from the Little City Foundation and the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams was considered by many to be among the most influential African-American women in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Reverend Dr. Ruth Theresa Williams imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
