TRIBUTE TO THE LATE DOROTHY JEAN NORMENT
 
 
WHEREAS, On October 8, 2013, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Dorothy Jean Norment to her eternal journey; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Michael Chandler, Alderman of the 24th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Dorothy was born in Tieplant, Mississippi on February 12, 1954 to proud parents Ardelia and Billy Joe Conley. Dorothy was the youngest of four. Her eldest siblings; Joanne Phillips, Pearl Conley (preceded in death), and Billie James Conley welcomed her with open arms; and
 
WHEREAS, Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life and soul - mate, Erskine Norment Sr. Together they raised seven beautiful children; Ronda Rocquemore (Terrell), Sonya Norment - Jackson (Terry), Janine, Sylvia, Nikia, Nicole Midderhoff (Jason), and Erskine Jr. Dorothy was a strong woman who provided stability for her family; and
 
WHEREAS, Dorothy spent many years volunteering at Matthew A. Henson School as an active member of the PTA, Local School Council and an advocate for educating youth. Many depended on her as a loyal friend, always eager to lend a helping hand. She was an inspirational presence in the North Lawndale community; and
WHEREAS, She was an intelligent, loving, and nurturing woman. She was courageous and energetic. She dedicated her life to her family as a wife, a mother, a sister, and grandmother and her laughter will be missed; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this 15th day of January 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Dorothy Jean Norment and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Dorothy Jean Norment.
