RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING VIRGINIA CRAWFORD WHITE ON HER 100th
BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Mrs. Virginia Crawford White celebrates her centennial birthday on Wednesday, June 29, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of diis special occasion by the Honorable Raymond A. Lopez, Alderman of the 15lh Ward; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is an enthusiastic, active and much-loved resident of Chicago's 15th Ward Community; and
WHEREAS, She was born in Hemingway, South Carolina, the fourth of nine children born to the union of the late Williams and Josephine Crawford; and
WHEREAS, Virginia went on to marry the love of her life; the couple had three children together, the late Aubrey and James, and daughter Gwendolyn; and
WHEREAS, Virginia was a dedicated nurse, she obtained her Nursing Degree from Truman College and practiced for more dian 40 years before her retirement; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her family obligations, Virginia was a member of the American Institute of Nursing, where she broke social barriers and paved the way for black women to pursue nursing careers; and
WHEREAS, Virginia remains an active member of her community, and is currently a Mother at Christ Temple Church; and
WHEREAS, She is cherished by her daughter, Gwendolyn, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, twenty-one great-great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends for her kind and loving spirit; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the rich history to which Virginia has witnessed and contributed, the Chicago City Council believes that Virginia is richly deserving of adulation and good wishes as she celebrates entering her 100fh year of life; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 22nd Day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Mrs. Virginia Crawford White on her 100rh birthday and extend our very best wishes for many more birthdays to come.
