Resolution: Samantha (Sam) Oliva
WHEREAS, The members of the City Council of the City of Chicago wish to recognize the accomplishment of Samantha Oliva of Nicholas Senn High School in earning the Heritage Award through the Walgreens Expressions Program; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been notified of this achievement by The Honorable Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Samantha Oliva was one of 15 award recipients out of over 3,500 applicants of the Walgreens' Expressions Challenge, a program designed for high school students to influence their schools and communities in a positive manner by addressing topics that primarily affect teens; and
WHEREAS, Samantha Oliva submitted her video piece "Just Grow With It", and her exemplary and encouraging work regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, growth, empathy, and uplifting others led to her being chosen as a winner; and
WHEREAS, The Heritage Award is named to recognize the beginnings of the Expressions Challenge in Chicago and St. Louis in 2009, which has now expanded across the country and has recognized over 500 organizations, parents, teachers, schools, and students; and
WHEREAS, Samantha Oliva also received this award alongside her teacher, Michael Cullinane, for his outstanding work in aiding students and embodying the Expressions Challenge's mission; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered this twenty-third day of June 2021, do hereby congratulate Samantha Oliva on receiving this award and express our gratitude for her drawing attention to critical issues affecting teens; and
