RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Alger "Duke" Chapman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Alger "Duke" Chapman was a prominent leader in the securities industry and the loving husband of Beatrice; and
WHEREAS, Alger "Duke" Chapman was the much-adored father of Alger, Andrew, Henry and Sam to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of New England, Alger "Duke" Chapman graduated from Williams College and Columbia University Law School before embarking on a career that spanned more than fifty years in the financial services industry; and
WHEREAS, Alger "Duke" Chapman worked early in his professional life as an attorney at the Securities and Exchange Commission and the New York Stock Exchange; and
WHEREAS, In 1986 Alger "Duke" Chapman was elected Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Board Options Exchange and during his ten-year position presided over a period of strong growth; and
WHEREAS, In 1998 Alger "Duke" Chapman joined Amsterdam-based ABN-AMRO Inc . as Vice Chairman of investment banking and capital markets before becoming the company's CEO of financial services; and
WHEREAS, Following a long and highly successful career, Alger "Duke" Chapman retired in 2004; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Alger "Duke" Chapman serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Alger "Duke" Chapman to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Alger "Duke" Chapman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2013, ...
