RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Richard Martin Morrow has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-six; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Glenview, Richard Martin Morrow was a leading executive in the petrochemicals industry; and
WHEREAS, Richard Martin Morrow served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in mining and petroleum engineering; and
WHEREAS, Richard Martin Morrow began his forty-three year career with Amoco Production Company, a predecessor of Amoco Corporation, in the oil fields around Houston; and
WHEREAS, During the 1960s, Richard Martin Morrow was transferred to New York and Chicago where he steadily rose up the corporate ladder; and
WHEREAS, Richard Martin Morrow was named Chief Executive Officer of Chicago-based Amoco Corporation in 1983; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, Richard Martin Morrow oversaw the company's name change from Standard Oil and broadened its interest around the globe; and
WHEREAS, Following his retirement from Amoco in 1991, Richard Martin Morrow became Chairman of the Leadership for Quality Education group which sought to reform the Chicago Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Richard Martin Morrow serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Richard Martin Morrow imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of March, 2013, do hereby commemorate Richard Martin Morrow for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Martin Morrow.
