WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 78; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, An iconic Chicago singer and songwriter, Denise LaSalle was the loving wife of radio disc jockey James "Super Wolfe" Wolfe Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle left Mississippi for Chicago as a teenager and ultimately signed with Chess Records; and

WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle's style ranged from blues to soul to rhythm and blues during a 50-year career in which she released more than 30 albums; and

WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle topped the Billboard Charts with "Trapped By A Thing Called Love" in 1971; and

WHEREAS, Other hit songs that jettisoned Denise LaSalle to fame during the 1970s included "Now Run and Tell That" and "Man Sized Job"; and

WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle founded the National Association for the Preservation of the Blues in 1986; and

WHEREAS, In 2015 Denise LaSalle was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle most recently appeared at the 2017 Chicago Blues Festival; and

WHEREAS, The talent, hard work and dedication of Denise LaSalle serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Denise LaSalle to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Denise LaSalle was an individual of great talent and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Denise LaSalle imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2018, do hereby commemorate Denise LaSalle for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her fami...
