RESOLUTION

 

 

 

WHEREAS, Luis Mateo (Louie KO Mateo) was born July 23, 1961 in Aurora IL, and started boxing at the age of nine; and,

 

WHEREAS, Luis Mateo won the Championship of C.Y.O. open division in 1975, the Lightweight City title for the Chicago Park District in 1977, the Golden Glove; and,

 

WHEREAS, As an amateur boxer he won the Welter weight and Super Middleweight divisions for the Illinois State Professional titles; and,

 

WHEREAS, Luis Mateo fought for two and a half years for the Chicago's Boston Ballroom before his amateur career ended and moved to Puerto Rico; and,

 

WHEREAS, During 1986 Luis started his professional boxing career were he fought Pipino Cuevas the greatest Middleweight boxer ofthe world, at the UIC Pavilion; and,

 

WHEREAS, Luis Mateo has been a volunteer at the Oakley Boxing Gym, and has worked for the Chicago Transit Authority as a painter; and,

 

WEHERAS, Luis Mateo enjoys his leisure time singing with his band called the Bachata Group; and,

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 14th day of October, 2015 A.D., do hereby recognize Luis Mateo as a stupendous boxer in the history of Chicago ; and,
