TRIBUTE TO GLADYS HARDNICK-BOUYER


WHEREAS, On January 13,1945 Gladys Hardnick-Bouyer was born in Talladega, Alabama, the daughter of Catherine (Hardnick) Pearson and Andrew Lawler; siblings Mattie and Larry; and

WHEREAS, after high school Gladys raised several children including her three biological children Katherine, Letasha and Kyra while earning three degrees: from Kennedy-King . College an Associate of Science Degree in Accounting, from Roosevelt University a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration and from Spertus College a Master of Science Degree in Human Services Administration; and

WHEREAS, Gladys was married to her beloved companion, Mr. Pierce S. Bouyer, Jr. Pierce passed away five years ago. They were deeply committed to each other and his passing is still profoundly felt; and

WHEREAS, for twenty-nine years Gladys was employed by the City Colleges of Chicago. She became her career serving in the position of Supervisor and Program Coordinator in the Continuing Education Department at Chicago City-Wide College for twelve years. For nine years she was the Supervisor in the Adult Education Department at Truman College. Lastly for eight years Gladys was College Advisor at Harold Washington College; and

WHEREAS, Gladys Hardnick-Bouyer has been a proud and committed leader of the Truman College Chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC). She has served as Public Relations Director from 1995-1998, Vice- President from 1997-1998 and President from 1998-1999; and

WHEREAS, Gladys also served as AAWCC Illinois State Section Board of Directors & Membership Vice President from 1999-2004 during which time the membership doubled. She became President of the Illinois State Section in 2004 until 2007; and

WHEREAS, Gladys served her last position with AAWCC as the Region V Director (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin) on the National Board of Directors, and
