RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Nancy Shlaes de Grazia has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Hyde Park, Nancy Shlaes de Grazia was a widely admired member of the political community and the loving wife of the late Victor R. de Grazia; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Shlaes de Garzia was a much adored mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Born in Maplewood, New Jersey, Nancy Shlaes de Garzia relocated to the Midwest and attended the University of Chicago, where she was introduced to Hyde Park political circles; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Shlaes de Garzia enjoyed a long and successful career as a campaign manager, most notably working as Executive Director for Dan Walker who was elected Governor of Illinois in 1972 and was his liaison to banking and regulatory agencies during his term; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Shlaes de Garzia also campaigned for Adlai Stevenson II during his 1956 presidential campaign and for Adlai Stevenson III when he campaigned for the Senate in 1970; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Shlaes de Garzia worked for the Independent Democratic Federation and was Regional Director of the American Hospital Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her professional achievements, Nancy Shlaes de Garzia served as Executive Director of the Hyde Park-Kenwood Community Conference, ran a Hyde Park garden fair and co-managed Harper Court Shopping Plaza; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Nancy Shlaes de Garzia serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Nancy Shlaes de Garzia to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
