RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In His infinite wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Angelis Verdelle Owens, outstanding citizen and member of her community; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Anthony Beale, Alderman of the 9th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Born on February 11, 1941 in Selma, Alabama, blessing the union of (the late) Frank and (the late) Isabel Young. She confessed her dedication to Christ at an early age, and truly embodied the teachings of Jesus with her selfless nature and dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, In the 1960's, Verdie affectionately known to all, relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she met her loving husband of 39 years and to this union were blessed with five children; and

WHEREAS, Verdie instilled in her children to maintain a "teachable" mindset because "you can never learn too much". She led by example, possessing several certificates from the independent business courses as well as an Associate's Degree in Business from Robert Morris College; and

WHEREAS, Verdie was beloved by all who knew her for her sweet and gentle spirt, love of life and appreciation for what she had, especially her family. She was a woman of grace, class, and wisdom. An active and vital member of her community, she never hesitated to give a helping hand; and

WHEREAS, Verdie leaves to love, cherish and honor her memory: daughters, Angelica (Daniel) and Samantha (Kevin); sons, Herman, Jr. (Frankie), Theo (Lenora), and Darryl (Regina); special son, Eric (Natan); grandchildren, Herman "Lavel", Alexis, Daniel "DT", British, Darius, Latrice, Theo "Dantrell", Darion, Marcus, Dijae and Sriyah; siblings, Leola (Bob), Vera, Charles (Delores), Bettie (John), Alice (Danny), Theo, Lois (Douglas), Arlene Broadnax and Jesse Young preceded her in death and a host of nieces, nephews, close relatives and beloved friends; and

WHEREAS, although she will be deeply missed, the memory of her character will live on in those who knew and lo...
