WHEREAS, The African American Contractors Association is hosting its 24th Annual Membership and Awards Reception on Wedne March 15, 2017; and
colleague and Alderman of the 8th Ward has brought this noteworthy event
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, an esteemed gue and Alderman of the 8th Ward to the attention of this august body; and
WHEREAS, The African American Contractors Association has been on the forefront of creating fair business opportunities for African American owned contracting companies particularly within the African American community, with private corporations and with local, county, state and federal governmental agencies; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, the African American Contractors Association originated a community employment initiative designed to improve and increase training resources and employment outcomes available and accessible to the African American community; and
WHEREAS, The African American Contractors Association believes that developing capacity through training, education and community development is the key for success. This years Annual Membership and Awards Reception will be held at the South Shore Culture Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive; now, therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council gathered here this twenty-second day of February, 2017, A.D., do hereby declare February 22, 2017 as African American Contractors Association Day in the city and salute the association on their great and worthwhile goals.
