City Council June 27, 2018
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS; The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence created the Student Voices Contest to give Illinois Youth an opportunity for creative self-expression on the topic of gun violence; and
WHEREAS; An essay, poetry, spoken word and art contest open to students in the 1st through 12th grade; the Student Voices Contest solicits entries from youth all over Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Colleen Daley, Executive Director and Dion McGill, Program Manager encourage youth to put their thoughts and words into action as they are trained in leadership and activism and ultimately create their own anti-violence campaign; and
WHEREAS, The 23rd Annual Student Voices Contests winners from the Bridgeport Catholic Academy are Nicolette Sandoval, 1st Grade- Blue Ribbon; Andrew Delgado, 4th Grade - Blue Ribbon; Caitlyn Pinzine, 4th Grade - Blue Ribbon, Ava Reyes, 7th Grade - Blue Ribbon; Fernando Tellez, 2nd Grade -Honorable Mention; William Hughes, 4th Grade -Honorable Mention; and
WHEREAS, By engaging the youth of Illinois as agents of change and voices to be listened to, the Student Voices Program ensures that youth are included in the debate about gun violence and in creating solutions to ultimately reduce the incidence of death and injury caused by gun violence; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this 27th of June, 2018, hereby congratulate the Winners and Honorable Mentions of the 23Rd Annual Student Voices Contest; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the winners of the 23rd Annual Student Voices Contest.
