CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO OFFICER GREGORY C. TOWNSEND ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Officer Gregory C. Townsend retires from the Chicago Police Department following 23 years of dedicated public service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by the Honorable Derrick G. Curtis, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Off icer Townsend, Star #49506, began his illustrious careerwith the Chicago Police Department in 1998, and retires as a valued member of the 006th District; his presence will be sorely missed; and
WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment of the motto ofthe Chicago Police Department - "We Serve and Protect" - exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the officers who must daily cope with the stress and danger of putting their lives on the line for countless City residents, but also on their family members; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his long and distinguished tenure, Officer Townsend upheld the finest traditions ofthe law enforcement community, and his hard work, commitment, and dedication to duty earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the communities he protected; and
WHEREAS, Officer Townsend devoted 23 years of his life to public service to the people ofthe City of Chicago, and, in doing so, has personally ensured that the City of Chicago is the safe, healthy, and vibrant community it is today; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of the City of Chicago want to recognize the great debt owed to our public servants, and extend our sincerest gratitude to the long and prolific career of Officer Townsend; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, Thatwe, the Mayor and members of the City Council ofthe City of Chicago gathered here this fifteenth day of December, 2021, do hereby express our gratitude for 23 years of service to the people of the City of Chicago, and express our heartiest wishes on a pleasant retirement to Officer Townsend; and
