RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-four; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett was a widely admired member of the legal community and the loving husband of the late Evelyn, nee Yates; and
WHEREAS, William Barnett was the much-adored father of William, Leone, Theresa, and Kathleen, the grandfather of five and the greatgrandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, William A. Barnett earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from Loyola University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett was admitted to the bar in 1941, shortly after enlisting in the United States Army and served his country as a Sergeant in the Counterintelligence Corps; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning home from the war, William Barnett married his wife and the couple settled in the Edgewater community where they raised a close and loving family; and
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett prosecuted high-profile cases, including the conviction of Chicago mobster Paul "the Waiter" Ricca, while head of U.S. Attorney Robert Tieken's criminal tax division; and
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett later enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a prominent defense attorney specializing in tax cases; and
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett was a longtime member of the American Bar Association and a valued participant in such organizations as the Rotary Club and the Chicago Walkers; and
WHEREAS, The hard work and dedication of William A. Barnett serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared William A. Barnett to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, William A. Barnett will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many ...
