RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Edward R. Kregor has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 96; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Wheaton, Edward R. Kregor was a decorated World War II hero and the loving husband for 67 years of the late Nellie; and
WHEREAS, Edward R. Kregor courageously served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II and participated in dangerous low-altitude nighttime missions over Nazi-occupied France; and
WHEREAS, As part of "Operation Carpetbagger," Edward R. Kregor flew espionage agents into France and dropped supplies, including radios and ammunition, to underground resistance fighters; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his bravery and service as a pilot, Edward R. Kregor was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the French Legion of Honor, France's highest honor; and
WHEREAS, After the war, Edward R. Kregor graduated from St. Ambrose College and earned a master's degree in English from Western Illinois University; and
WHEREAS, Edward R. Kregor eventually moved to Chicago where he taught English at East Aurora High School; and
WHEREAS, In 1967 Edward R. Kregor accepted a position with the office of the Illinois Superintendent of Public Instruction where he worked as a curriculum consultant and reading specialist; and
WHEREAS, Following a long and illustrious career, Edward R. Kregor retired from public service in the 1980s and enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward R. Kregor serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward R. Kregor to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Edward R. Kregor was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembere...
