MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR DR. ANDRES "ANDY" O. BOTUYAN
WHEREAS, Dr. Andres "Andy" O. Botuyan, passed away on February 10, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his death by the Honorable Roberto Maldonado, Alderman of the 26th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Andres "Andy" O. Botuyan was born on November 30, 1933, to the proud parents of Baldomero Callanta Botuyan and Victorina Lopez Obedoza in Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Botuyan received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Thomas in Manila, Philippines in 1960, and moved to Chicago in 1962 to begin his career as a Surgeon at the MacNeal Memorial Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Since beginning his solo practice in 1969, Dr. Botuyan held a variety of distinguished positions. While working with Norwegian American Hospital, he was Senior Attending Surgeon, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, President of Medical Staff and Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Botuyan also served as Attending Surgeon at St. Elizabeth and St. Mary of Nazareth Hospitals, and was Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Ross University College of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Dr. Botuyan demonstrated tireless dedication to the medical profession, serving as Chairman of the International Medical Council of Illinois, Chairman of the International Association of American Physicians, Treasurer and Trustee of the American College of International Physicians, a member of the American Medical Association and many more medical associations. Dr. Botuyan was named as a Distinguished Fellow at the American College of International Physicians in 1990, and was named as a Fellow by both the International College of Surgeons and the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America; and
WHEREAS, Despite his numerous professional commitments, Dr. Botuyan made it a priority to serve the Filipino community in Chicago and in the Philippines. Dr. Botuyan was Vice President for the Filipino American...
