Congratulations Extended to the Society of American Archivists on its Seventy-Fifth
Anniversary
Whereas, The Society of American Archivists is celebrating its Seventy-Fifth Anniversary this year; and
Whereas, The Society of American Archivists, as North America's oldest and largest national archives professional association, serves the education and information needs of more than 6,000 archivists working in government agencies, libraries, museums, historical societies, academic institutions, businesses, churches, and professional associations; and
Whereas, Archivists serve in a critical role in modern society by seeking out, preserving, and making available the historic records that are the documentary heritage of our civilization, the foundation of our knowledge of history, and the proof of our legal rights in a free society; and
Whereas, The City of Chicago has benefited directly from archival research in the rediscovery ofthe City's original charter, long believed lost in the Great Fire of 1871; and
Whereas, The City of Chicago will be the host city to the Society of American Archivists' Seventy-Fifth Anniversary Meeting, to be held August 22-27, 2011; now, therefore,
Be It Further Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe City of Chicago City. Council, assembled this 18th day of May, 2011 A.D. do hereby congratulate ofthe Society of American Archivists and its members and wishes them a successful Seventy-Fifth Anniversary Meeting.
