RESOLUTION FOR HONORARY STREET NAME DESIGNATION OF "EDWARD J. STRINGER, SR. BLVD."
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the members of the Chicago City Council are hereby informed of the Honorary Street Nomenclature Ceremony, August 2, 2011, for the late Chicago Firefighter Edward J. Stringer, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, The residents and elected officials have deemed appropriate the renaming of the block of 5400 S. Oak Park Avenue, the southwest corner, as "Edward J. Stringer, Sr. Blvd." in his honor; and
WHEREAS, This honorary designation is but a small manner in which to recognize the contributions of an individual so great that the impact of his dedication to the citizens of Chicago are impassioned; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Edward J. Stringer, Sr., a twelve year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from injuries sustained while battling a vicious fire on the City's south side; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter Stringer loved his job and to quote him "People make fun of me because most people are running away from a burning building and I'm the one running in", is proof. His commitment to duty led to his death when a brick wall in a fiery, abandoned building collapsed on him, and caused the fatality; and
WHEREAS, Of the myriad available career paths toward fulfillment of the "American Dream", there are but a few through which faithful execution of responsibilities offers simultaneous assurance that those who choose other paths will in fact have a legitimate opportunity to achieve their portion of the "Dream", thereby, Edward J. Stringer, Sr. joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1998 and bravely served the citizens of this city until he was called to his eternal resting place; and
WHEREAS, Dedication to and fulfillment to the role of a fireman exacts a substantial physical and emotional toll not only on the firemen who must daily cope with the stress and danger of potential deadly fires, but also on the family members who live with the...
