RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley was a Unionist politician and Protestant religious leader who served as a member of Parliament from 1970 to 2010; and
WHEREAS, After serving for four decades in Parliament, the Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley was named Baron Bannside and took his seat in the House of Lords in 2010; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley was the First Minister of Northern Ireland from 2007 to 2008 and was a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for Northern Antrim from 1998 to 2011; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley served in the European Parliament for Northern Ireland from 1979 to 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley evolved from a firebrand unionist to become an elder statesman who sought mutual cooperation and peace between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Eileen, and his three children, Cherith, Kyle and Ian, the Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of November, 2014,
do hereby commemorate the Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Reverend and Right Honorable Ian Paisley.
