RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin has gone to his eternal reward at the age of seventy-three; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin was a prominent Chicago criminal defense attorney known for his skill as a trial lawyer; and
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin was the much-adored father of Eden to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin was raised on Chicago's North Side where his father ran a cleaning business at Oak and Wells streets; and
WHEREAS, Born in Canada, Rick Halprin played professional hockey in a minor league in his younger days and kept his jersey framed in his law office; and
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin bravely served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he suffered a shrapnel injury ; and
WHEREAS, A rare combination of dashing and street smart, Rick Halprin defended high-profile clients, including organized crime figure Joey "the Clown" Lombardo; and
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin was also involved in the 1991 On Leong gambling enterprise trial in federal court; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Rick Halprin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Rick Halprin will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Rick Halprin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of June, 2013, do hereby commemorate Rick Halprin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the farfjlly of Rick Halprin.
